Phillip Sangwine Interim Director of Music

Phillip studied music at Bangor University and gained his MA in 2012 and also holds diplomas in sacred music studies from the RSCM and teaching from ABRSM. Over the years Phillip has held a number of church posts including at Old Malton Priory, St Mary’s, Beverley, All Saints’ Pavement, York and St Chad’s, York. These posts have all included choir training as well as organ playing. When at St Chad’s Phillip developed and ran a junior choir. Away from church music Phillip is an active music teacher. Phillip has also served as President of the York & District Organists’ Association between 2005 and 2007 and also as Secretary for a period after that. The YDOA is one of the most active associations in the country; Phillip was one of the YDOA members involved with assisting Martin Renshaw with the installation of an 1897 Henry Willis organ at St Deny’s Church in York. When not involved in music Phillip enjoys railway travel, photography and destructive gardening (defeating ground elder)!

William Campbell Organ Scholar

William is currently studying music at the University of York and also holds diplomas for the Violin. He has held church posts at St Mary’s West Croydon, St Laurence, Catford, Guildford Cathedral and currently Leeds Minster. Away from music William enjoys football and athletics.

Philip Paul Honorary Assistant Organist

Philip studied music with the Open University and gained his diploma in 2004. Philip has held posts in the York area at St Philip, Clifton, St Thomas, Osbaldwick and currently Central Methodist Church, where he is the director of music. Philip has been the stalwart organising the YDOA concert series for many years and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts for developing this programme from its inception. Philip has also served as President of the York & District Organists’ Association in 2004 and 2005. Since then he has also served in the role of Secretary. Away from music Philip enjoys photography and travel. He is also currently Chairman of the Anglo Scandinavian Society.

Renate Sangwine Honorary Assistant Organist

Renate has studied at Guildford and London. She gained her BA in 1992 and also holds diplomas in Singing, Piano, Dance and Drama. Renate has held posts at St Giles, Skelton, St Mary’s, Boston Spa and currently St Mary’s, Tadcaster where she is the director of music. Away from church music Renate is an active teacher of music, dance and drama. In her spare time Renate enjoys dancing, photography and gardening.
